I took my 82-year old parents (both 82) on a trip to New Zealand for the New Year holiday recently. Our first stop was the lovely city of Auckland; arriving in the morning, lunching, walking about, before going back to the hotel to properly get checked in.
Happened on December 29, 2017.

Nice and warm for your parents, away from the colder-than-usual winter in Japan. Great idea!
