My life in Tokyo and sometimes in other parts of the world, part 2
A guided tour (including seeing the world’s steepest residential street as certified by the Guinness World Records), time spent in a fun coffee shop, and some shopping at the end marked the final hours of our stay in Dunedin, New Zealand. We took an evening flight back to Auckland to stay in an airport hotel to catch a flight back home the next morning.

We walked mostly where it was flat and that’s a small portion of the city but we still managed to find great looking buildings (though the Cadbury factory building is not that but it was just across the street from our hotel) in Dunedin, New Zealand.

A visit to the impressive railway station in Dunedin, New Zealand which opened in 1906, adorned with Minton tiles and Royal Doulton porcelain. It is no longer in use as a real railway station but is used as a base for a sightseeing train.

The last leg of our Queenstown-Dunedin road trip. Loved the sheep herds along the way, our apartment hotel in Dunedin was great (no pix except for the police station next to us which made us feel, um, safe? – they had prison cells ^^), returned car, did grocery shopping. Yet another hilly New Zealand city.

I had done some research before we set off on our New Zealand South Island road trip from Queenstown to Dunedin but except for the lunch stop in Clyde, I didn’t really know if we were going to make any other stops along the way. The fast-paced driving (at 100 kph which is much faster than what we are used to in Japan) however was wearing me out so we turned off at a rest area and found this cute cafe (unrelated to the rest area) in even a smaller village than the first one.

We had our lunch stop (and I did some souvenir shopping) in Clyde, a cute little town in Central Otago, New Zealand during our trip between Queenstown and Dunedin.

We rented a car in Queenstown to drive to our next and final destination Dunedin on the other side of South Island of New Zealand. Made a few stops along the way and this was the first. We picked up a bag of very good cherries.

Our second day in Queenstown, New Zealand was going to the Kiwi Birdlife Park, up the Skyline gondola, taking in the scenery, chillin’ with more NZ wine, with a nice dinner at the end. Lamb! finally.

Flew in the morning from Auckland to Queenstown and spent the day lunching, chillin’, having supper, and chillin’ some more.

After a long day of wine tasting and ferry rides, Chinese takeaway dinner sounded like the right thing to do. Downstairs from our apartment in Auckland, New Zealand, was just the right kind of shop and we had the right wine from the tour to go with. Happy dining.
